What is a WiFi Network


A WiFi network is a computer network connected using wireless networking devices. The iPhone™, iPod Touch™, and most modern laptops have WiFi built in. Typically a WiFi network is connected together using a WiFi access point, a small box with radio antennas that often doubles as a router.


Creating a Mac OS X 10.4 / 10.5 Ad Hoc Network


  1. 1.Click the Airport icon and go to “Create Network”















  1. 2.Enter a name for your network. Any name will do.

  2. 3.Check “Require Password” if you are in a public place. This will encrypt the connection but you will have to enter the same password into your iPhone or iPod Touch

  3. 4.Click “OK”














  1. 5.On your iPhone or iPod Touch, go to Settings -> WiFi and select the network from the list.

  2. 6.Open MobileStudio and follow the instructions to start copying your files.

  3. 7.To disconnect, click the Airport icon and go to “Disconnect from [Your WiFi Network]”.

Is an Access Point Necessary


It is possible to create a WiFi network without an access point. This type of WiFi network is called an Ad Hoc WiFi network. These tutorials will explain how to create a simple Ad Hoc Wifi network that connects an iPhone or iPod Touch to a Mac or PC. You must have a desktop or laptop with a WiFi card.


Creating a Windows Vista Ad Hoc Network
